Arrest History in Butler County
Butler City Police, Cranberry Township Police, Adams Township Police, Pennsylvania State Police, campus police, and other municipal departments create their own arrest reports. The Butler County Sheriff handles warrants, transport, court security, and sheriff duties. It is not the default holder of every police report. County policy expressly directs a police report request to the agency that created it.
If detention continues, Butler County Prison creates a separate admission record. The MDJ records preliminary arraignment and bail. Fingerprints and the OTN flow to the PSP Central Repository when reportable. Those records can differ because charges change and updates take time.
Butler County Arrest Agency Routes
Jurisdiction is the first test. City Police records stay with the City; Cranberry and Adams police records stay with their townships; PSP records follow the state-police request route. General county Open Records does not hold municipal police reports. A request should name the event date, place, agency, report number if known, record type, and preferred medium.
The county explains this routing on its official page. See the Butler County Open Records source captured here.

Following that route prevents a delay caused by sending a police request to the wrong county office.
How to Look Up Butler County Arrests
No official public Butler County jail roster or countywide arrest blotter was found. The working method is a chain of official channels. Use a full name, approximate date and location, and the arresting agency when known. Do not rely on a commercial mugshot gallery.
- Ask the arresting police agency for its report process.
- Call Butler County Prison at 724-284-5256 if current custody is possible.
- Search UJS MDJ dockets, then Common Pleas if the case was held for court.
- Use PSP PATCH for the statewide dissemination product or Access and Review for one's complete record.
- File a specific RTKL or court-record request with the true custodian.
Booking at Butler County Prison
Butler County Prison is at 202 S. Washington Street, Butler, PA 16001, and can be reached at 724-284-5256. It is the county pretrial and county-sentenced custody point. PA DOC's locator excludes county inmates and becomes relevant only after a state transfer.
The prison page is the official custody fallback. See the Butler County Prison source captured here.

The absence of an online profile makes a focused phone or records inquiry especially important.

What an Arrest Record Shows
A requested Butler County booking record may show admission data, the committing agency, charges presented, bail, court, custody, transfer, and release. Security, medical, victim, juvenile, and protected-person information can be withheld. Because no public profile is exposed, no one should claim that every field or booking photo is publicly visible.
| Booking Number | Admission or commitment identifier, if released. |
|---|---|
| Booking Date & Time | When county intake occurred. |
| Arresting Agency | The department responsible for the arrest report. |
| Charges | Charges presented at intake, which may later change. |
| Bond | Bail type, amount, and committing court when public. |
| Mugshot Policy | Booking photos are subject to disclosure review, not a guaranteed public field. |
| Release Status | Release, transfer, or continued commitment data. |
Butler Arrest Investigation Requests
Records tied to a criminal investigation may use the Butler County District Attorney's separate RTKL route. The DA request page permits mail, email, fax, or hand delivery. Investigation exemptions can still protect active work, witnesses, victims, and evidence.
The DA page documents that distinct path. See the DA records-request source captured here.

A denial should state its legal ground and appeal route; it does not authorize use of a different office as a workaround.
Recent Arrests and Booking Logs
Butler County has no verified public online jail roster or comprehensive arrest blotter. For a recent event, identify the arresting agency, call the prison if detention is likely, and search the UJS MDJ criminal docket. A complaint may appear there before any CP-10 Common Pleas case exists.
Police news releases are selective. Prison custody also differs from a lifetime arrest history. Even a current roster, if later introduced, would only describe its stated period and population. Absence would prove neither that no arrest occurred nor that no earlier booking exists.
Note: PA DOC cannot locate a person held only in Butler County Prison.
Butler County Arrest Warrant Portal
The Sheriff links an official active-warrant portal. A result can change quickly and must be confirmed with the issuing court or Sheriff. UJS may show a bench-warrant event, but it is not a real-time warrant system.
The portal is an access channel before or after an arrest. See the Sheriff warrant source captured here.

Do not confront anyone. A person resolving their own warrant should contact counsel and the issuing court or Sheriff.
The Sheriff does not demand gift cards, wire transfers, or phone payment for a warrant or failure to appear.
Butler County Custody Confirmation
Visitation rules can confirm the official facility channel but are not an arrest search. The county's visitation page requires an approved list, photo identification, screening, and coordination with the inmate.
The current procedure is shown in the official source. See the prison visitation source captured here.

Those rules help distinguish a confirmed county facility from an unofficial custody claim.
Remote visits use SmartInmate. See the county video-visitation source captured here.

Remote scheduling concerns communication with a person in custody, not proof of the arrest's legal outcome.
Butler Arrest Booking Flow
A custodial arrest begins with transport and identity, warrant, and charge checks. Intake can then include a property inventory, screening, fingerprints, photograph, charge and OTN entry, and a preliminary arraignment before an MDJ. The judge addresses bail. A person not released moves into housing and classification at Butler County Prison. The preliminary hearing and later docket events determine whether the case ends at the district level or reaches Common Pleas.
Record flow: Arresting Agency › Butler County Prison › Magisterial District Court › Court of Common Pleas › PSP Central Repository
Warrant and warrantless arrests begin with different papers, yet both can produce this booking and court trail. Bail, custody, and pretrial supervision are separate statuses. Pretrial supervision can monitor a released person without placing that person in prison. A detainer can keep someone confined even when bail is set on the visible charge. Ask the court or prison which status controls rather than inferring it from one docket field.
Arrests vs Convictions
An arrest entry records police action and possible custody. A conviction follows a court finding or plea. The arresting agency and prison create the first records; the court creates the disposition and reports it to PSP. Always align the arrest cycle with its OTN, docket, and final result. Booking charges can be amended, withdrawn, dismissed, resolved by plea, or tried. A release date says nothing by itself about guilt or the eventual court result.
| Arrest Record | Conviction Record |
|---|---|
| Created by police and, after commitment, the prison. | Created by the deciding court. |
| Shows that an arrest or booking occurred. | Shows a guilty plea or finding. |
| Lives with the agency and custody facility. | Lives with the Clerk and may be reported to PSP. |
| May lead to release, no charge, dismissal, or acquittal. | May lead to sentence, appeal, or lawful restriction. |
For one's own Pennsylvania record, PSP Access and Review is broader than an ordinary public PATCH certificate and can include convictions and nonconvictions. A dismissal does not always erase the arrest cycle automatically. Expungement and Clean Slate limited access have distinct eligibility rules, and repository updates can lag behind the signed court order. Start any correction by collecting the arrest identifier, OTN, both MDJ and Common Pleas dockets, and the final order.
Police narratives also remain separate. PATCH does not supply the local incident narrative, and a UJS docket does not reproduce it. That is why the proper agency request remains necessary even after a court search succeeds.
Note: An arrest is not proof of guilt; check the final Butler County court disposition.
